No Time to Say Goodbye: Surviving the Suicide of a Loved One, by Carla Fine
This is not the first book I started reading after my beloved left this world. But it is the first one I finished. I tore through the 252 pages in just a few days. It was hard to put down. Reading the information provided and the stories from other survivors was like finding an oasis in a desert. It helped so much. At least for a little while.
I think I will end up reading this again, maybe multiple times, I don’t know. It’s like putting salve on a wound. You have to keep reapplying it for some time.
The book is divided into six sections: Introduction, The Suicide, The Aftermath, The Survival, Afterword, and Resources. 19 very readable chapters.
The author dives deep into her own experience and also shares several stories from others throughout the book, looking at them from different angles, covering different topics from stigma to legal issues to getting help. It feels very comprehensive. It helped me to feel less alone going through this terrible thing.
Would definitely recommend.
